Laptop Access Program - Assisting Displaced Gazan Children To Access Online Education

Project Timeframe: 2024

Gazans in Egypt are not eligible for residency or refugee status. This has two major consequences. First, Gazans are unable to find formal employment in their respective fields. The work they do secure is often low-wage and precarious, making it difficult to support their families adequately. Second, residency restrictions prevent children from enrolling in public schools. Families who cannot afford private education or tutoring are left relying on limited alternatives, such as online classes via a family’s cell phone, which children find difficult and inadequate for effective learning.

The laptop access program sought to assist with the second issue. In collaboration with Thaki, an educational NGO based in the Netherlands and Lebanon, DSG distributed laptops to 50 families along with school and art supplies funded by Art For Palestine. This not only allowed children to access their online classes but also provided them with thousands of hours of educational games and lessons for KG-HighSchool compiled by Thaki on their proprietary programming.
